30 Nov Grids, Glissando
I’m writing a string quartet, by itself, for the first time. This is a commission from the Romer Quartet in Hong Kong, a new group that my friend Ringo Chan is a part of. I know Ringo from various music friends in HKG, and he is also a violist in the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
I started the quartet a few weeks back, and it’ll be a way for me to test out some of the ideas that I have been thinking about lately: a static piece, 15 minutes or so in length, with all four instruments playing a steady grid of eighth notes, with slow glissandos across this grid.
I’ll post an update as I get more notes down on the page. Happy Thanksgiving!
